North Dakota’s highways have become famous for being pretty empty, and some would say lonely during long trips. Running out of gas on some highways might even be dangerous. On the opposite end of the spectrum, traveling to work each day in New Jersey might find you in unavoidable traffic – each way. If traffic bothers you, there are some states that are congested from end to end, so stand clear, especially at rush hour, when 1 mile can feel more like 50.
